The creation of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park forced migration of indigenous Batwa people off their native land resulting into increased oppression, food insecurity, extreme poverty for the Batwa. Throughout their history, they have lived in the forest hunting and foraging for their sustainance. since their violent removal from Bwindi, they were given no right to land and have no knowledge about farming. The Batwa especially the women are devastated by extreme poverty.
Therefore BGBEF is struggling to secure land of farming and build permanent houses for them to settle and farm. It also seeks to train the Batwa on better methods farming, training them on income generating activities, teaching them on saving culture by opening for them a SACCO bank , training them on animal rearing, bee- keeping, mushroom growing, poultry keeping which will help them to improve on their income and be able to maintain their families.
